Buck's

We stopped into Buck's after a trip to Assateague. To say this place is interesting is an understatement.

Part convenient store, part fishing supply, part take out order, part sit down restaurant/"dive bar". We opted for the sit down restaurant as my wife was craving crabs.

First off, the good. Kids 5 and under get the all you can eat crab meal for free. The price for the crab meal is about $50, which is fairly reasonable. You get all you can eat crab, fried chicken, hush puppies, corn on the cob, shrimp, fries, and on and on. They both enjoyed their meals.

Now the bad. It took FOREVER for the all you can eat food to be brought out. We were the only ones in the place, so it's not like they were slammed.

My son and I both had our orders within 10 minutes. He had a hotdog kids meal with fries and mine was a fried chicken plate. My meal was an absolute fail. The chicken was cold (like it had been sitting around) and one piece was SUPER small. I snuck a bite of chicken from my daughter's portion and it was much better than my own (and bigger!). The hot dog and fries were what you'd expect, decent but nothing to write home about.

After around an hour things finally started to come out for the all you can eat meals. By that point my son and I had been done for 30 minutes and were waiting around. The food was served extremely hot, which was a nice welcome from my own dish. My wife was served a very generous helping of crabs in addition to everything else. The waitress was even kind enough to let us take the uneaten ones home with us.

If they could work on the timing issue and serving the food warm, this would have been a much better experience.

If you're ever near Berlin, Maryland or heading to Assateague Island, be sure to stop at Buck's Place. Our new favorite 5 Star Dive Bar. It's at the corner of rt. 611 and Assateague rd. They have everything you need but not at tourist trap prices.

Do not let the outdoor appearance fool you. The restaurant here is delicious!!! The crabcakes are amazing!! There is something for everyone here!!! You can also learn about the BIG FOOT that roams around these parts. This is a must stop!!
